Paradigm Shift

“The list of health problems I think it would very hard to live with is SO much longer than the list of foods I previously thought I couldn’t live without,” Merrill Alley.

this is it

We go home in 6 days--am I ever glad. This month has been an eye-opener into my own short-comings. With new knowledge under my belt, I have goals to improve my own character and count my blessings more.

I've got a few old projects to tie up.

My hair is almost long enough to put up in my favorite vintage styles. I've developed a love for cute hats, too.

Since I love vintage fashions, I plan to sew a few dresses, skirts, blouses, and nightgowns. Linen, wool, silk, and cotton are my favorite choices. Of course, I don't plan to look like I walked out of a Jane Austin novel, because my hem-line preference is mid-calf. Check out my favorite pattern companies below. On the side, I am so excited to take Emily the beautiful old Singer sewing machine I fould for a steal here in the great North West.

I may sew some of these for my granddaughters. I think they are adorable--dresses and granddaughters.

The yard and garden will need oodles of care. I love to play in the dirt and have learned not to look at what still needs to be done. Each little accomplishment is a step in the direction of beauty.

I'll cook the food I like without worrying about childish comments. We're going completely organic and think it will help my health. With this choice we realize we will be eating less, but it will be so much better.

Of course in all this I must take care not to tax my strength--but I can't wait to begin.

  1. I love vintage clothing! My girls love it too, just wish I was better seemstress! We purchase the old fashioned type night dresses for their temple dresses, they were gorgeous and still a huge favorite with the girls!

  2. I can't wait to see the old sewing machine. I am so excited to start making things. I would love to make sure drapes for my new front room. And cute clothes made by grammie are always a welcome addition.

  3. Have you looked at folkware patterns yet? I've bought a few of theirs, along with Sense and Sensibility. Now I just need to get a new sewing machine. I've been drooling over a TOAST catalog, and realize that I really need to start sewing again. Their clothes are too expensive (and that is in pounds, not dollars), but made from wonderful fabrics, and a great inspiration to me. They are modern, but simple, and generally modest. Anywho, it just made me realize that if I want clothes like that I am going to have to make them.

  4. I hear you I used to sew everything but shoes and socks. I've worn ill-fitting clothing long enough. I want to feel pretty again.

As for being a better seamstress, just take it one seam at a time. The tasks are easy that way.

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
