After the first few days of detox, it seems that our green smoothie experiment is a success. Spencer has a lot of color in his face and is gaining weight. Joseph and I both feel better. Watching Spencer regain his health so quickly is sort of like watching Daniel, who
"would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine." The Hebrew translation of meat means delicacies. I've always been a greens lover, eating large salads of arugula or spring greens for snacks. But it usually took me a few days to get through a tub of organic greens. Now we eat 2 -3 tubs per day. Drinking 3 large glasses of greens and fruit a day, we aren't really hungry for heavy meals. I'm only cooking dinner now plus we eat leftovers or a sandwich for a midday snack. I'm really hoping that this helps me shed the unwelcome extra pounds gained during my illness and the other ones I've carried since Spencer's birth. I seem to have enough energy to take walks most days now and my sleep is sounder. I'll let you know if it really does eliminate PMS.
"And again, verily I say unto you, all wholesome herbs [vegetables] God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man—Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with prudence and thanksgiving." Doctrine and Covenants 89:10-11
"And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat." Genesis 1:29
Do you have a particular recipe or way that you make these?
ReplyDeleteSince three of us use a blenderful, I use three servings of fruit. We have one of these 3X per day.
ReplyDelete3 servings of fruit (any kind, but we've found that at least one orange hides the taste of the bitter types of greens)
9 oz. spinach or chard or baby field greens
3 oz. bitter greens (turnip, rocket, mustard, collard, parsley)
2 c. purified water
First you put the water and fruit in the bottom of the blender and blend until smooth. Then you add the greens about 3 oz at a time. Blend till smooth with each addition.
You can use a regular blender but a vita-mix works much better. Just make sure it is blended very smooth.
