I hadn't really considered this as an option for more than a hem or basting before. Nevertheless, last night I cut out a simple skirt following the outlines of my old favorite that I've worn on vacations for years. After 5 months, I can't bare the sight of it any longer. But I like the way it fits. The new fabric is a simple blue, cotton "homespun." I can wear it under the cute dress Joseph bought me that is just too short for a Prairie Girl look. Or I can wear it alone with a nice blouse.
I did the first seam sitting near a sunny window in a dainty little chair. Although it took longer than machine sewing, it was so much more relaxing. I used a back stitch for the two side seams last night. Today I intend to flat felt them, put in the elastic waist band, and hem my skirt.
The lady above has many more free videos here.
Better still, I found the most delightful hand sewing video lesson site. The lady teaching the classes is French. I've read many books, where the French hand sewn garments are said to be the epitome of femininity. Only the first couple are free though.

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
