the law of Moses and today's Christian

Although it must have seemed that God abandoned him, when his brothers sold him into Egypt, God sees all and knows what is best for us. He used this sinful choice of Joseph's brothers to save the future Israelite nation. After some interesting experiences, Joseph saved his family from starvation.

Many generations later, the Children of God were made slaves in Egypt. Eventually, Moses led them to land of Milk and Honey with the famous Exodus. Unfortunately, while in Egypt, the Children of God forgot Him for the most part, forgot His Word, and  worshiped Egyptian idols. Thus during the Exodus, they had a hard time giving up their ideas of dependence on a master and blamed Moses for every hardship and ill. Some preferred Egyptian captivity over this new strange liberty.

Moses tried to be patient and prayed to God in their behalf. God gave them the pillar of fire and smoke to give them direction. He protected them from the Egyptian soldiers. Feeding them, providing water, and not allowing their clothing to deteriorate, God met their physical needs. Like little children as soon as Moses' back was turned they acted up and worshiped idols again. Sadly they could not live the higher law that brings the most joy, so God provided 10 easy commandments plus a set of very detailed and strict ordinances  or the law of Moses for their spiritual welfare.

Of course the book of Exodus is much more detailed, but my summary suffices for my purposes. What exactly was the purpose of Law of Moses? "And for this intent we keep the law of Moses, it pointing our souls to Christ." Jacob 4:5"...persuading them to look forward unto the Messiah and believe in Him to come as though he already had come." Jarom 11

"And notwithstanding we believe in Christ, we keep the law of Moses, and look forward with a steadfastness unto Christ, until the law shall be fulfilled. For this end was the law given; wherefore the law hath become dead unto us, ans we are made alive in Christ because of our faith; yet we keep the law because of the commandments. And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, ans we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. Wherefore, we speak concerning the law that our children may know the deadness of the law; and they, by knowing the deadness of the law, may look forward unto that life which is in Christ, and know for what end the law was given. And after the law is fulfilled in Christ, that they need not harden their hears against Him when the law ought to be done away." 2 Nephi 25:24-27

"Yea, and they did keep the law of Moses; for it was expedient that they should keep the law of Moses as yet, for it was not all fulfilled. But notwithstanding the law of Moses, they did look forward to the coming of Christ considering that the law of Moses was a type of his coming, and believing that they must keep those outward performances until the time that he should be revealed unto them. Now they did not suppose that salvation came by the law of Moses; but the law of Moses did serve to strengthen their faith in Christ; and thus they did retain a hope through faith, unto eternal salvation, relying upon the spirit of prophecy, which spake of those things to come." Alma 25:15-16

Paul had this to say about the Law of Moses. "The law of Moses was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ." Galatians 3:24

I think my posts have been too long for anyone to want to read, even though that is not my purpose. However, I plan to make them somewhat shorter for the benefit of those who endure my prose. Over the next few days, I'll consider a few more questions about the Law of Moses. What happened to the Law of Moses? How did the Law of Moses act as a schoolmaster? Why were the Israelites so willing to worship images? Why did the Gook of Mormon prophets talk and teach so much of Christ before His coming? How did Christ fulfill the Law of Moses?
