no loopholes and no alternatives

On of my favorite blogs talks a lot about the role of women in today's world--yesterday's post was no exception. The point Lydia makes using God's words, is that the role of women has not changed just because times are tough or women want liberty. In fact these very issues may have been caused by the mass exodus of women from the home and immodest fashioned which began  in the 40s and gained momentum in 60s and 70s.

"I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully." 1 Timothy 5:14

"In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works." 1 Timothy 2:9-10

"The aged women likewise[sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience], that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things. That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children.,To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." Titus 2:2-5

But God and His word is the same today as it was yesterday with "no loopholes and no alternatives." Homemaking is hard work that goes unrewarded by the world. Therefore we ought not look to the world for our rewards. Success will come in child rearing and homemaking only when we  realize that God is our employer and He will bless those who choose to follow His commands even if those commands require great sacrifice.

Children need a mother in the home, period.  Obviously, it is better if mothers are sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience], holy, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things, loving to their husbands and children, discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good---sounds like Paul's description of charity, the true love of Christ. However it is not a prerequisite of motherhood to be perfect. We should all be on the road to perfection but none of us will actually arrive. The idea is to strive and do all in our power to follow this commandment. Being available to children is the best possible opportunity to create stability. Money does not create stability but a quantity of quality time.

"There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath riches." great Proverbs 13:7

A happy home ringing with the joyful sounds of children is the richest blessing offered by God. But in order to achieve this goal, we must embrace His commandments and welcome children into our homes. Children are not a burden but a blessing. Staying home to care for them is likewise not a curse but totally fulfilling.

  1. Beautifully written! Children truly are an heritage of the Lord. And they need their mothers!
