Paradigm Shift

“The list of health problems I think it would very hard to live with is SO much longer than the list of foods I previously thought I couldn’t live without,” Merrill Alley.

all her paths are peace

At this time I take pictures with my cell phone. I hope get a camera someday that takes better quality photographs.

This is the damage done by my chickens, when they escaped last fall. In my vegetable garden, I have raised beds. The pathways between the beds are covered with black plastic and carmel colored pea gravel. It used to be a beautiful site to see. Now it's a mess. I came up with a possible solution to clean the mess up--I'll keep you posted with my success or lack thereof. "Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace." Proverbs 3:17
I won't have chickens again until I can build a proper hen house and run. Self-sufficiency is my biggest dream. "Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties." Psalms 141:4

This is what happens, when you leave for three months. What a mess. I'll be digging this out over the next few months to put in an asparagus bed bordered with strawberries and chamomile. Beyond the picket fence is my veggie garden and raspberries. "For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things." Zechariah 8:12
The front yard is an ugly barren place that I find quite embarrassing. I can't even take a picture of it, but I hope to transform it over the next months as well. "My beloved is gone down into his garden, to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies." Song of Solomon 6:2

When I feel overwhelmed by the above projects, I look at my flowers or my beehives and realize there is sweet hope. I've been so blessed to partake of the cool beauty of my desert oasis. "My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: " Proverbs 24:13
I may begin selling my honey this fall, as Grammy G's raw, organic, unfiltered honey. We can never eat all the honey produced by our three hives. I plan to build more hives over the winter eventually having ten or twelve hives in my backyard apiary. "She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates." Proverbs 31:18&31

  1. Oh my that is too bad about the chickens! I notice you have bee hives. I would love to have some but I have no idea how to keep bees!

    Good luck on your garden!

  2. Our yard is looking something... ummm... messy. We are putting in a large double retaining wall, building a stone patio/walkway, and we've waited and saved for three years to do so. A lot of other things have fallen by the wayside, but I am finally seeing hope in my yard. Someday.

  3. Good luck. I know it is a lot of work, but it will be beautiful again. I love to sit on your porch and enjoy the simple beauty of nature.

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
