Paradigm Shift

“The list of health problems I think it would very hard to live with is SO much longer than the list of foods I previously thought I couldn’t live without,” Merrill Alley.

No matter how old we become, we can acquire knowledge and use it.

“A wise woman renews herself. In proper season, she develops her talents and continues her education. She musters the discipline to reach her goals. She dispels darkness and opens windows of truth to light her way.” (Elder Russell M. Nelson, Ensign, Nov. 1989, 21).

The other day my mother and I were talking on the phone, which we do several times a week. As the conversation wove its fabric, she revealed that she never really learned to type correctly. It's one of those small regrets and not anything monumental. Still it's there. I suggested that she learn with a computer program. Children as young as 5 or 6 can learn so why not? I agreed to send her our tutorial, since there are no more children to teach around here.

I love to learn. Funny as it sounds, I was told recently that I am too old to learn anatomy or a new language. What good would it do me? I am getting older, true. But I believe learning new things keeps the mind active, and we take our knowledge with us. I'm having a lot of fun following the learning program at LDS Mommy University. I'll continue to carry a book or two wherever I go to capture lost moments even if I'm greying around the temples and developing crows feet. "And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come." Doctrine & Covenants 130:19

Elder Henry B. Eyring: “It takes neither modern technology nor much money to seize the opportunity to learn in the moments we now waste. You could just have a book and paper and pencil with you. That will be enough. But you need determination to capture the leisure moments you now waste” (Education for Real Life, 4).

"The learning process is endless. We must read, we must observe, we must assimilate, and we must ponder that to which we expose our minds.....we cannot afford to stop learning and growing and progressing. We must not rest in our personal development--development that is emotional and spiritual as well as mental. There is so much to learn and so little time in which to learn it...No matter how old we become, we can acquire knowledge and use it. We can gather wisdom and profit from it. We can grow and progress and improve--and, in the process, strengthen the lives of those within our circle of influence." Gordon B. Hinckely

  1. I love LDS Mommy University! Right now though, I'm taking a break from their literature reading and reading _Atlas Shrugged_. I just need about 2-3 more hours per day, but I believe my time will come...when the girls are all learning on their own! Just a few years!

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
