Last week we took a hiatus from TravelinOma's School Days, because her husband had a near fatal heart attack. Three arteries were nearly clogged shut. She asked us to write about cookbooks and blogs that promote a healthy lifestyle. I can do all those things.
Before, after, and between these times, I write, read, sew, play my violin and piano, draw, do church work, and do all my favorite homemaking blessings. I do things and spend time with people that make me happy. I avoid stress.
I can't believe how great I feel. Both Joseph and I have lost almost 10 pounds. Although I know each of us have a bit mpore to go, I'm also thrilled. I haven't been this weight for nearly 20 years except for an unhealthy short time about 12 years ago. But I won't go into that. This is what we are doing now.
9:30-walk 20 min.
12:00-lunch of some sort of legume dish and salad with one small serving of my homemade whole wheat bread, muffins, or tortillas-no extra butter or other spreads
12:30-work in garden on nice days for a couple hours/bad days I use an exercise video (The Firm-I only like the ones from the late 80s and early 90s. I like T-
Tapp too.)
Tapp too.)
3:00-gazpacho smoothie
6:00-dinner of a small amount of an animal protein dish, veggies, and salad (homemade lemon and olive oil dressing) with one small serving of my homemade whole wheat bread, muffins, or tortillas-no extra butter or other spreads
7:00-walk 20 min.
Before, after, and between these times, I write, read, sew, play my violin and piano, draw, do church work, and do all my favorite homemaking blessings. I do things and spend time with people that make me happy.
We have dessert only on Monday nights for Family Home Evening. I generally follow the menu plans in Pantry Principle for lunch and dinner. Although I do read a lot of cookbooks looking for new delicious things to try that sound nutritious and delicious. Pantry Principle, a free downloadable cookbook from Kate's Kitchen, has lots of great recipes that fit the Word of Wisdom and help me rotate my food storage. 95% of the recipes would fit into a heart healthy diet with the exception of the creamy salad dressings and a couple that call for cream. I now leave out the cream and make a simple lemon and olive oil salad dressing. When I began cooking this way, I loved the benefits of including more fiber into my diet. Now that I've incorporated green smoothies, I have no problem with the Heart and Cancer Society recommendations of at least 38 artery and colon cleansing grams of fiber per day. But I must remember to drink plenty of water, too.
Great ideas. Thanks!
