Paradigm Shift

inter-library loan

We were gone for ever so long that I began to tremble for lack of access to books. Of course I traveled with several books and bought a couple in bookstores along the way--but I had no inter-library loan. I'm always hearing about a great book that I ought to read. Unfortunately, this list is usually more than 100 new titles per year. I can't buy them all, nor would I want to. That's where the library comes in. They hunt up the title. I read it. Then I decide if it's something I want on my shelf. If it's a keeper, I try to buy a hard-cover, used from Amazon or other online book dealer.

So in five months my list grew to nearly 50 titles. As soon as I got home, I put in requests for 10 books--that's my limit. I also checked out 10 more from the library. So I haven't done much but read. I found a couple keepers.

Bee Story is a fun book about bee keeping presented in an anecdotal format. It's very readable and inspiring. Tasha Tudor's Garden and The Private World of Tasha Tudor are exquisite, but I don't know if I can justify the price. Better Homes and Gardens Pattern Adjustments is a nice little gem I found, while searching out Julia Child's books at the library. Although I don't want any of Julia's books (too much meat and fat), I want a copy of the pattern book. I think it will make the difference in my sewing that has been missing. All the things I saw Grandma doing to fit dresses are in this book and explained so clearly.

Today I must tear myself away from reading and writing to watch general conference and put another flower garden to bed for the winter. All this reading is hard work, but somebody's got to do it.

  1. Ginger, that is exactly how I would describe today...I'm having to tear myself away from a book! I love General Conference though, so I'll have to balance my day!~~Anne

  2. I've seen the Tasha Tudor books before, but you've made me request them from the library. I noticed she also has a cookbook that looks interesting.
    Wasn't Confernce wonderful today?

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
