To Bee

I like bee keeping a lot. It is so fun to watch the bees from my kitchen window. People are always asking me if I sell my honey. I guess this has made me think. Well with the hives I have, I don't really have enough to sell. I give a bit away for gifts and use the rest in desert making and bread baking. But what if I got a lot more hives? It's something I've been pondering.

Also after I lifted the very heavy supers off my hives last year, I think I'd like to change to English Garden Hives. You can read about EGH in the book The Backyard Beekeeper. After loosing one hive completely to wax moths last year, I'm in need of at least one new hive. English Garden Hives hold two less frames and are a lot cuter, too. These hives sound just like the ones in The Keeper of the Bees, one of my favorite books.

That book has changed my outlook on life in many ways. I love the description of the flower gardens, the ocean, and the bee hives. It's the reason I keep bees and plant flowers.

Keeping bees in the suburbs is easy. It's sort of the lazy man's ranching. I have friends down the street who have kept bees for 30 years on their small city lot while raising 7 children. Children soon learn that stings only come from not respecting the rules of the bees, which are easy to learn.

  1. Wow, those are adorable and the price is really reasonable! I have 'The Keeper of the Bees," but the only person who has read it is Bella. I'll add it to my list soon!

  2. So Ginger are you going to get more bees and sell the honey. I think you could do this if you want. Mom

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
