"And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness...so He created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them." Genesis 1:26-27

In the beginning of His word, God told us of his nature. Why is it important for us to understand God's nature? Satan is always trying to confuse us to make us miserable. If he can convince us that God is some floaty thing that cannot be seen or felt, he puts a wedge between us and our Maker--our Father.

The truth according to Genesis is that we are made like God, with tangible bodies of flesh and bone. However, God is perfect and glorious in body and spirit, since He is immortal. At this point, we are mortal, subject to temptation and illness and all maladies of the flesh and mind. We are not perfect or glorious.

We are here to strive to emulate God's character in these imperfect bodies. Perfect attributes such as love mercy, charity, truth, power, faith, knowledge, and judgement are the celestial ring we reach for but are ever too short to grasp. But it is in the reaching, the striving, the failing that we ever so slowly attain a small particle of godly character.
