Paradigm Shift

“The list of health problems I think it would very hard to live with is SO much longer than the list of foods I previously thought I couldn’t live without,” Merrill Alley.

Relief or Release Journal #8

My outlook...peaceful...We've settled into the new house and are quite comfortable. However, I was quite disappointed that the lady we rent from here sold her piano. I won't be able to practice for 4 months.

On my mind...I took my first final toward Master Herbalist this morning and passed with an A. At LMU, one of the assignments for the handicrafts class is to read this lesson from Kate's Finishing School.I'm supposed to think of a woman who fits God's model of feminine attitude as outlined in the lesson and write about my findings. I'm also reading a book called Women of the Old Testament. I think I'll combine these pursuits this week.

What's cooking in my kitchen...without my pantry full of food, I'm sort of winging it until the end of January. I don't know how people can survive without a year's supply of basic staples and a freezer full of veggies and fruit. I really don't.

Prayer requests for the week ahead...my grandmother and father-in-law are both pretty bad off right now. Grandma is in ICU with unrelenting chest pains~it doesn't look good. My FIL is in terrible, debilitating pain from arthritis and cancer. Pray that God will grant them relief or release whatever His will.

My appearance today...navy and violet plaid shirtwaist with a navy underskirt about 4 inches longer than the dress, black leggings, and birkies.

Exercise goals...When I finally shake this virus, I'll get back into my routine.

My reading this week… LMU reading list from my side bar, How to Raise Healthy Kids in Spite of Your Doctor, And the Skylark Sings With Me by David Albert, Never Too Late: My Musical Life Story by John Holt, Western Civilization, The Essays by Montaigne, Women of the Old Testament by C.F. Olson. Google Books is a God Send.

Blessings This Week...All the food in this house just waiting to be turned into something yummy.

A Scripture passage I am meditating on..."And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same." Genesis 41:48 Food storage isn't such a strange idea isolated to the LDS people, now is it?

Home making tasks this week...This week we'll have two guests. Joseph's cousin from CA, that I've never met and our dear friend of over 20 years, Lee Guetterman. I need to spruce up two of the empty bedrooms to accommodate them. I'm in Pantry Principle area #2.

Something new to try...I'd like to do Daniel's Challenge, which is quite similar to the way I already eat. It sounds interesting.

My week is looking...serene and satisfying. I love homemaking even in a strange house.

Creative projects I'm working on...I was too sick to work on anything but what I could do from the confines of the couch last week. So this week I'll finish poor Gayle's dress and doll birthday gifts.

God has been teaching me...patience and the frailty of the human body. We really do need to listen to His teaching concerning diet and care of the body. All week I studied herbs that could have nipped my menise in the bud, but I didn't have any or any way to get them. I need to be self-reliant and grow my own.

For devotions...I'm still in Genesis, which I find so very interesting and inspiring. I skip around for my Spanish devotions but am consistent so as to keep moving forward in my acquisition of the language.

A simple pleasure...sleep, vitamin C, and echinacia.

Commitment to loveliness...1) learn how to wear my hair up like Caryn 2) continue practicing How Great Thou Art and Amazing Grace plus all my old pieces 30 min per day on my violin 3) one nature drawing 4) make our simple meals a visual feast 5) journal every day

Photos...my little laptop that reads my memory card is still on the fritz. When it's fixed, I'll resume posting these.

  1. I have the Women of the Old Testament book. The pictures are amazing and it is on our list to sit down and read together with the girls this year.

  2. How do you use Google Books?

  3. Google books is an online library/bookstore of sorts. It's like having Barnes and Noble On your computer minus the comfy arm chair. Look for a book in their search engine (google books). Sometimes your preferred book is not available for preview, only has a limited preview, or can't be found at all. Usually, classics show the entire book as do many others. You can put the books you like on your private shelf to look at whenever you want. If you really like the book, there are links to amazon and other online bookstores. It's great for me, because I study lots of classics and obscure older books.

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
