private choices/public consequence~Joshua 7

Going back a few verses, I'd like to focus on the sinner, Achan. Because Achan didn't obey the commands of God concerning Jericho, the army of Israel was defeated at Ai. Joshua 7:1-5 Achan, it seems, had taken gold and silver and a Babylonian garment for himself, when all gold and silver were to be put into the Lord's treasury and everything else was to be destroyed. Joshua 7:20-21 Obviously he knew it was wrong, because he hid the evidence until he was caught.

Since I've raised a batch of teenagers and have been one myself, I've heard variations on the phrase, "It's my life. I'll live it anyway I want." While this is true in the respect that everyone has free agency, it is also true that every choice a person makes affects and impacts those around him for good or ill.

"Private choice as are not private: they all have public consequences...Our society is the sum total of what millions of individuals do in their private lives. The sum total of private behavior has worldwide public consequences of enormous magnitude. There are no completely private choices." James E. Faust, Ensign, May 1987, 80

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
