"And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it..." Genesis 1:28

This scripture has twofold meaning. It is good and right to have children. It is good and right to use the earth for our benefit.

Part of God's Plan includes the righteous union of men and women into couples for the purpose of building families. The family is the foundation of civilization. Without a doubt, the family necessarily includes children. Today there are philosophies created by designing men concerning the over population of the earth. Supposedly, there are not enough resources to support large families. Some think children a burden that hinder their search for meaning. but God's command is not obsolete.

It's interesting that these two commands occur in the same sentence. If we learn to care for the earth and utilize our resources properly, there is more than enough food and space for many more children. I look at the Dervaes Family. I don't know all their circumstances. However, I know that they accepted the challenge to have children and subdue the earth. They have 4 children and very little earth. With these wonderful young people, the family learned to use the resources available to grow nearly all their food on a city lot, run a family business, and become nearly self-sufficient with energy and so on. It does not take a triple digit income to raise and support a large family if we learn to subdue the earth, meaning work well with what we have.

The lies being told about overpopulation only apply if we refuse to care for our own. This is not possible if we spend our time amusing ourselves to death with television and such. This is not possible if we ruin our health eating over-priced, health-depleting, processed psuedo-foods, which will lead to the necessity for expensive medical intervention. This will not be possible if we continue to buy into the belief that we need to impress the world with McMansions and copious possessions. The solution is not going to come from making better drugs, aborting our babies, refusing to have children, or redistribution of economic resources. It will come from each of us taking better care of our health, thus avoiding the need for expensive medical care. It will come from each of us taking better care of our resources, thus allowing us to prosper according to God's standards. It will come from each of us accepting God's commands to have children, to be kind, to be honest, and to work hard. Let us be content with less so we can have so much more.
