Paradigm Shift

“The list of health problems I think it would very hard to live with is SO much longer than the list of foods I previously thought I couldn’t live without,” Merrill Alley.

with humble heart

The sacrifices talked about in the Old Testament were symbolic of Jesus Christ Atonement but did not remove the sin. Since the people no longer needed to look forward to Jesus after the Atonement, blood sacrifice ended.

"And ye shall offer up onto me no more the shedding of blood; yea, your sacrifices and your burnt offerings shall be done away, for I will accept none of your sacrifices and your burnt offerings. And ye shall offer a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost, even as the Lamanites, because of their faith in me at the time of their conversion, were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and they knew it not." 3 Nephi 9:19-20

Today the sacrifices we offer are different. They are not full of show as with burnt offerings, but are sacrifices of the inner man.

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets. I am not come to destroy but to fulfill; For verily I say unto you one jot nor one tittle hath not passed away from the law, but in me it hath all been fulfilled. And behold, I have given you the law an the commandments of my Father, that ye shall believe in me, and that ye shall repent of your sins, and come unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit. Behold, ye have the commandments before you, and the law is fulfilled. Therefore, come unto me and be ye saved; for verily  I say unto you, that except ye shall keep my commandments, which I have commanded you at this time, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." 3 Nephi 12:17-20

It is quite clear; to enter the kingdom of heaven, we must keep the commandments. One of these commandments seems to be that we must come unto Jesus with a "broken heart and a contrite spirit."

"Behold, He offereth Himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered." 2 Nephi 2:7

To make the Atonement work in our lives, we must humble ourselves and possess a broken heart and contrite spirit.

With Humble Heart

With humble heart, I bow my head
And think of thee, O Savior, Lord.
I take the water and the bread
To show remembrance of thy word.

Help me remember, I implore,
Thou gav’st thy life on Calvary,
That I might live forevermore
And grow, dear Lord, to be like thee.

To be like thee! I lift my eyes
From earth below toward heav’n above,
That I may learn from vaulted skies
How I my worthiness can prove.

As I walk daily here on earth,
Give me thy Spirit as I seek
A change of heart, another birth,
And grow, dear Lord, to be like thee.

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
