"He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that light." John 1:8
John the Baptists' mission was to bear witness of Jesus. This is likewise the mission of all followers of Jesus Christ. Because a testimony of Jesus Christ increases, as one seeks the Spriit's guidance during personal devotions (prayer, script study, pondering), this is the first step in witnessing. Second living what Jesus taught to the best of one's ability witnesses a Christ-centered life. "Be ye not ashamed" to speak of Jesus and stand up for His standards is a witness. Loving one's neighbor and being forgiving is witnessing. Standing as a witness of God at all times and in all things and in all places seems to be the answer.
