Matthew 10:35-38 and Luke 12:49-53, 58
Sometimes when a person jions the church, Jesus' kingdom on earthy, he finds his "foes shall be of his own household." Not too long ago, a missionary couple from this area served a mission in Africa. They taught, converted, and baptized a young man. Horrifyingly, he was murdered by family members for his choice. Jesus wants families to be peaceful and united. Nevertheless, peace is not the general trend upon the earth. "Satan has gained dominion over the hearts of worldly me; and there shall be no permanent, enduring peace among nations and kindreds until the Prince of Peace establishes it as part of Him millennial reign." Bruce R. McConkie, Doctrinal New Testament Commentary, V.1 P.335. John 16:33, Doctrine and Covenants 1:35, 63:32-35
So when we find Jesus' Gospel and leave worldly ways behind, we open the door to the hatred of the world--often demonstrated most vehemently by one's loved ones and closest relatives. After all we can do to talk and reason, to avert domestic dissension and family bitterness, our first loyalty is Jesus. "So likewise, whosover he be of you that foresaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:33 The peace Jesus brought is an inner personal and spiritual peace--"the peace of God, which passeth all understanding" Philippians 4:7 Even if every person on earth embraced this peace and lived as He lived, there would be little hope for perfect peace now. We are not perfect beings and are subject the the temptations of Satan. That does not release us from the duty to strive for this ideal.
The family of the young man used the beliefs that similarly mimic the Lord's statement that He came into the world not, to bring peace but a sword to rationalize the murder. This was an ungodly course. Likewise, believing that God approves or designed war for peace, holy wars, or crusades are sanctioned, or that Cortez-like the gospel of peace can be spread by the sword, men bring terror to the innocent and condemnation to themselves. Nevertheless defending one's home, family, and liberty is sanctioned. Alma 46:12-13

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
