Paradigm Shift

“The list of health problems I think it would very hard to live with is SO much longer than the list of foods I previously thought I couldn’t live without,” Merrill Alley.

I love to sew, creating new fashions, gifts, and useful items.  So why do I have trouble following through on my projects? Why do I not do something that brings me so much joy? Here's my list of excuses.

1. I don't have a proper sewing area.
2. I don't have enough time.

"Behold, mine house is a house of order, saith the Lord God, and not a house of confusion." Doctrine and Covenants 132:8

The first one is easy to address. I will cleared out the bottom cabinets of my china hutch, giving me a place to organize my tools and patterns.  I also have a nice empty space in my bedroom closet that is just right for a fabric shelf. With so few of us home now, we rarely use the table anymore. I'm going to leave the machine on the dining room table. If we need the table, I can always put the machine next to the china hutch.

"Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God." Doctrine and Covenants 88:119

Because I take Jesus' advice literally, I have worked very hard to come up with a workable routine for everything. Mornings: Order, Walk, Water, Workout, Devotions, Bathe, Breakfast, Farm, and Family Service. My routine takes about 2.5 hours. I do this every morning, except Sunday, when I take a rest from exercising and work. If I don't keep tabs on the clock it can take 4 or 5 hours. After spending the day working on my studies, writing, and mentoring with a short lunch and walk break, I have always started dinner at 5. But my nutritarian diet does not require an hour in the kitchen for preparations anymore. It can easily be done in 15-30 min. That leaves me 30 minutes to sew 6 days a week. Plus, I have another 30 minutes in the evenings before I read my evening book (right now it is Asimov's Guide to Shakespeare). Jack Bauer had 24; what could I accomplish in 6?

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
