John 8:1-11
This whole thing was another trap for Jesus to avoid. Anciently, adulterers were stoned for their crime. However, under Roman law, crimes were tried by the government and not Mosaic law. When they brought the woman before Him, they wanted to see if He would go with Moses or the Romans. Brilliantly, He chose neither side but taught a great lesson. We are all sinners even if some sin to a greater degree than others. We ought to be examining our own lives and improving ourselves instead of pointing fingers at those whose sins stick out like a sore thumb. We ought to be compassionate and loving towards those who fall into transgression and teach them the way of Jesus.
My husband has a little saying he teaches in his Sunday School class: First improve yourself today and then your friends tomorrow. The message is that tomorrow never comes so work on your own weaknesses.
One question about this whole situation always bothers me. If the woman was caught in the very act, wasn't the man also there? Why did they not bring the pair of them before Jesus if the Mosaic law was for adultery. Women cannot commit adultery alone. Just a thought.

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
