mother as shephard

John 10:1-15, 25-28

As a mother, the image of a shepherd protecting his flock makes perfect sense to me. She guards the door from dangerous influences and gives her life for her sheep. She nurtures them with delicious meals and a comfortable home. She leads them to green pastures. They know her voice and follow her. No hireling loves her sheep as she does. Nobody can take her place unless she neglects them and allows worldly influences to come in and harm them. The family culture she creates is abundant in love and looks toward eternal family life as the ultimate goal.

In this parable, Jesus is the shepherd. We are protected when we know and follow His voice, when we enter His door, when we accept Him comfort. He will lead us to earthly and heavenly happiness and guard us from worldly influences if we will hear and follow Him. He abundantly blesses us with joy and peace as He directs us to eternal life with the Father and Himself.

  1. Beautiful analogy! Makes me want to find a picture of the Savior as the Good Shepherd to hang in my home.

  3. I found your blog through Chocolate on the Cranium ... I love this analogy. I actually read a great article called "Women in the Image of the Son: Being Female and Being Like Christ" in LDS Women's Treasury that was just incredible. Basically, she went through the titles/analogies the Lord uses to describe Himself, and so many of them are what we consider to be "feminine" attributes. The world wants us to move away from that part of our inherent nature - the Savior stands as a witness that that part is the part we should value.

Hmmm...a blogging post to be written? Sorry for the essay, but I love the theme of your blog. I'm new to the blogging world but I'm amazed by the incredible women who are out in the MMB world. Thanks for your work!

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
