take an hour
1 Corinthians 11:17–29
It seems many Corinthian Saints were turning the sacrament service into a potluck and arguing about it as well.
“With so very much at stake, [the sacrament] should be taken more seriously than it sometimes is. It should be a powerful, reverent, reflective moment. It should encourage spiritual feelings and impressions. As such it should not be rushed. It is not something to ‘get over’ so that the real purpose of a sacrament meeting can be pursued. This is the real purpose of the meeting” (Jeffrey R. Holland, Ensign, Nov. 1995, 68).
The purposes of the sacrament is to be reminded of Jesus' sacrifice and to renew our covenant to always remember Him. To better keep my mind and heart focused on Jesus, as I partake of the sacrament, I read the hymns and scriptures connected to the hymns of the meeting. At the bottom of the page at the end of each hymn, there are two or three scriptures written. I look these up and focus on the message. Additionally, I like to use this time to reflect on His sacrifice to me by inserting personal pronouns into the sacramental prayers. Whenever a little child cries and must be carried out, instead of getting perturbed, I reflect on the beauty of eternal families and the innocence of little children.
It is import to partake of the sacrament worthily, else we bring damnation to our souls. This a warning to prepare for the sacrament by examining my life, my worthiness, and repenting before partaking. Although this takes a bit of time prior to attending the meeting, it is a wonderful opportunity to allow my spirit to be fed. Certainly, I spend a lot of time preparing temporal food, shouldn't I take an hour to pray, ponder, and seek forgiveness before such an important even as the Lord's sacrament?

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
