This idea of evil spirits is not pleasant. Even though the evil spirits Jesus encountered knew Him, they remained evil still evil. Knowledge alone isn't enough. To be a follower of Jesus Christ, one must choose to walk in His way with faith.
I can't imagine the torment of those that gave up their chance for a body and eternal progression. When I mentor high schoolers, I always assign The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. Although I love reading scripture and encourage my students to delve into them, this book paints a vivid picture of the deviousness of Satan and his minions.
Sometimes I wonder if some types of mental illnesses are evil spirits. Who knows?
