Celebration...Spencer is getting better after a terrificly terrible bout of the flu...x-ceptic was not an option with all the vomiting...thankful for priesthood power, God's blessings, and comforting/healing herbs...
Praying For...Claire Bear, 3rd child of daughter #1, and Sar Bear, daughter # 4...I love how one daughter gave her girl the same nick-name as one of my girls. This daughter and granddaughter are sweet and special; hopping that health, happiness, safety, and love of Jesus Christ come their way. I love my family with all their talents and all their quirks. I'm praying for the safety and success of the servants of God everywhere. I'm praying for safety and necessities for children and families around the world. I'm praying that the hearts of the leaders of nations will be softened towards the Lord's gospel and His children. I'm praying for the Elders of Israel to save the Constitution of the United States and the liberty it demands. I'm praying for charity to rest on the hearts of mankind.
Commitment to Health...Deliciousness...I watched a lecture, Cooking Up Great Health with Dr. Fuhrman, where he showed a chart for mixing and matching flavors for soup making. I love soup. Here's my thick, creamy, filling, delicious interpretation of
ETL Veggie Soup with Garbanzo Beans and Quinoa
1 bunch celery, juiced
4 bunches baby or 1 bunch regular bok choy, bottoms cut off--greens loosely sliced
1 leek, well rinsed and cut in half
1 small zucchini, cut in half
1-2 cloves garlic
1-2 sliced parsnip
2 stocks chopped celery
4-6 oz. shitaki mushrooms, finely minced
2 t. ground new mexico chili powder
1 t. powdered cumin
1 c. dried garbanzo beans
1/8 c. red quinoa
Soak beans for 24-48 hours. Cook with enough distilled water to cover on low in a crock pot for 6-8 hours. Once your beans are cooking, soak quinoa 1/4 c. distilled water. 30 minutes before you want to eat, juice celery. Put in soup pot. Add tender beans, bean broth, leek, bok choi bottoms, zucchini, garlic, parsnips, celery, and spices. Simmer until zucchini is fork tender but not mushy--10-15 min. Remove bok choy, zucchini, leek, a little broth, and some of the beans. Blend until very smooth and return to pot. Mince mushrooms and add to pot. Dice red pepper and add to pot. Loosely chop bock choi tops and add to pot. Add quinoa. Continue cooking until bok choy is wilted or about 5 min. Serve in bowls, sprinkled with nutritional yeast, red pepper flakes, and chopped cilantro. Dessert was tropical fruit sorbet.
Commitment to Health...Movement...I discovered that this movement is crucial to my health--sort of like a diabetic's medicine. If I don't do at least one T-Tapp work out, Stretching Anatomy, and walking every day, my back and neck kill me. I talked this over with God and feel inspired that it is not breaking the Sabbath to do these things seven days a week. As long as there is no ice, I'm going out walking. This movement package were inspiration and a blessing from God as a gift to little old me. UPDATE: Ha...now wasn't that a rationalization! I just did not feel right about this decision and never followed through. Remember the Sabbath day and keep it Holy.
Commitment to Loveliness...I saw this idea in a magazine a long time ago. With a pile of children to care for, I never had the time to fuss. But I want my dispensary cabinet to be worthy of cottage herbalist. Soooo...I'm making lacy frills for the edge of the shelves with white paper scalloped and paper punched to look like eyelet lace. Just as soon as I get the jar tops painted, I'll take a picture.
Commitment to Loveliness...Thimble News...years ago I bought a funny shaped neck pillow that I always use for traveling or when I have a head ache. After it traveled with me on grungy Greyhound, I could not bring myself to use it again. I pulled it apart and traced its parts to make another. And then I thought how they would make nice Christmas gifts with sleepy time eye pillows. Shhhh don't tell. I also found this cute pattern doll pattern that I'm considering for some sweet granddaughters.
Commitment to Modesty...Appearance...Thursday I took my car back in again, because the starter was going out, and it needed a new battery. Our car tech, Charlie, offered to take me home. Instead I asked him to drop me at the grocers for fresh veggies. He was appalled, because it was only 10F outside. I smiled and said I'd be fine. On my walk home, I was dressed in a navy corduroy skirt, French blue blouse, navy cable knit sweater, white microfiber jacket, blue down coat, black gloves, black leggings and knee socks, and my favorite black mary-jane birkies. I was not cold except for my nose and finger tips and enjoyed my walk in the fresh air immensely. But the tops of my chard, sticking out of my grocery bags, froze solid.

Scripture Meditations..."Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and stablish you in every good word and work." 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 Jesus wants us to learn good and do good. He wants us to do our very best at walking in His steps and living His example. He knows that we will fail and offers His grace and atonement.
Towards a Real Education... Herbal History--finished...Herbal Therapies--finished...Advanced Botany--finished...Herbal Chemistry--finished...still to go Anatomy-Pharmacognosy-Thesis-Seminar-Final Exams...I won't call myself medicine woman or master herbalist or even naturopath, when that time comes--I prefer cottage herbalist or village healer or traditional teacher or something like that. I want to help people gain knowledge to help themselves capture a vibrant, healthy lifestyle instead of pretending to be God like so many doctor types. And maybe I'll only help my family.
What's Coming...indoor gardening fun...here come the greens...
Simple Pleasure...watched a wonderful movie, My Six Loves...delightful...
Garden Gate..Because I love growing things and am a professional armchair gardener, I'm reading The Book of Edible Nuts and drooling over Kitazawa Seed Catalog (it has me craving greens). Sadly, I'm not much of an actual gardener, though I do try...
Bee Buzz...with the storm and cold weather the girls were stuck inside...good thing...the robins and flickers were hanging out with dinner on their minds. The flickers got unusually bold and stuck their beaks in the front entrance of the hives with no results. The robins were looking for dead bees buried under the snow. The nerve....
Cottage Dispensary...(after learning the history of medicine lately, my cottage dispensary won't be called it an apothecary any longer. I expected my new shelf to be finished Thursday, but will be finished and allow transferring all my dried medicinal herbs to jars during the coming week. One shelf will have small cracker jars and another large cracker jars for the more bulky ones like red clover blossom, mullein leaf, and red raspberry leaf. There will be just enough space behind the herbs for the honey from our own hard working bees, which I also keep in quart or pint mason jars. I'm putting everything into one cabinet with doors that close, because herbs must be kept in the dark to retain freshness. In the cabinets below that counter. I'll put my bee's wax and other stuff to make ointments and encapsulate the herbs plus sprouting and micro-green supplies. The whole thing makes a fabulous herbal dispensary space and even has a little counter for preparation of teas and such. Every time I organize and cull, I feel euphoric, but I also get more and more careful about what comes in my door. Order brings so much peace.

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
