apple or lemon

Matthew 12:31-37; Luke 6:45

This has become a heavily debated topic in our house. What are idle words? What sort of speech is OK? Why is 'kidding' not acceptable? In our society, it has become acceptable to joke and with sarcasm and a little meanness, put others down. More and more this seems unacceptable. We should be honest and say what is true. Recently a dear sister taught a lesson in our women's meeting. She made an analogy that has stuck with me. When you squeeze a lemon you get lemon juice. It doesn't matter if that lemon is disguised as an apple, you will still get lemon juice. So do I want to give off lemon juice or apple juice? Do I want my words to be acrid or sweet? I'm leaning toward sweet as a follower of Jesus Christ.

If I want to be sweet inside, I need to be careful what I think about myself and others. If I think unkind thoughts, even as a way to form my jokes, then I breed unkindness in my heart. However, if I attempt to see others as God does, with pure love, and look for their good qualities, my heart may be filled with love.

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
