Each of the women in my life had something to offer. Mom was a wonderful cheerleader, attending all my events and giving me tons of praise. Grandma Weedon modeled being the perfect seamstress and Christian with her always charitable attitude. Grandma Downen, the perfect hostess, had a spotless home, perfectly made meals, and endless patience with little children. With each of these women, I always felt close to heaven. The feelings that remain with me about their devotion to work and routine for a higher purpose have been the backbone of my life's goals.
We don't know what little piece of service will hold meaning for those we love most. It could be how we decorate, grow our own food, sew a quilt, use sweet smelling herbs, keep order, set the table for a meal, working with a smile, or time spent making delicious food that will guide someone’s heart a little closer to family and God. When we do these things with an attitude of charity, God is in our actions.
We think nobody will notice our small efforts--those times when we slow down and handle life with gentleness. When we protect the family domain, reclaim order from chaos, weave beauty into life, we make all the difference between a house and a real home. Autumn sort of makes me turn inward and get reflective, even sentimental. But isn't that what women are supposed to do. After all we are designed to nurture.
Enough philosophizing for today. I'm off to the grocer, because I'm going to make with a new recipe.
'Noodles' for Two
1/2 c. distilled water
4 roma tomatoes
2 T. raisins, soaked
1/2 c. sun dried tomatoes
1/4 c. dried mushrooms
1 stalks celery
1 bunch minced basil
1/4 c. minced parsley
1 T. lime or lemon juice
1 cloves garlic
1/8 t. dried pepper flakes
1 t. dulse
Blend everything except basil and parsley, then stir them in. (This can be low heated at this point.) Scoop out the fibers from 1/2 spaghetti squash (I just learned that it is not necessary to bake this delicious dish.) OR julienne some butternut squash. Top each portion of squash with half the sauce. Garnish with a few twists of black pepper and nutritional yeast. Serve with cucumber/fennel/red pepper/avocado/lemon salad on the side.

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
