Paradigm Shift

“The list of health problems I think it would very hard to live with is SO much longer than the list of foods I previously thought I couldn’t live without,” Merrill Alley.

Forget-Me-Not #3

'Forget not to be happy now' is provident advice. When I was a little girl of nine, my fourth grade teacher read us Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I enjoyed it immensely. Even though quite entertaining the message of the book to enjoy today even if it doesn't contain a golden ticket was not lost on my young mind. Perhaps the teacher helped us realize the theme. However, it seems I've always been waiting for what's around the bend and dreaming about happiness instead of being grateful for my blessings. Shame on me.

"We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." Articles of Faith 1:13

While it is true that we do plan for the future and we should have hope and goals, we ought to find what is good about today. Putting happiness on hold for some sought for blessing or event, we miss so many blessings right under our very noses. Or as my dad always said, we cut off our noses to spite our faces.

Interestingly, I've found I like forget-me-nots far more than roses.

"The happiest people I know are not those who find their golden ticket; they are those who, while in pursuit of worthy goals, discover and treasure the beauty and sweetness of the everyday moments. They are the ones who, thread by daily thread, weave a tapestry of gratitude and wonder throughout their lives. These are they who are truly happy."
