Paradigm Shift

“The list of health problems I think it would very hard to live with is SO much longer than the list of foods I previously thought I couldn’t live without,” Merrill Alley.

be a duck

my old friend
Sunday School Lesson...I'm so grateful for the scriptures and how they help me overcome my weaknesses...Next week's lesson “For a Wise Purpose”

Praying For...Tyson and Quinn...the safety of children in dangerous, demeaning, or dire situations...softening of the hearts of the leaders of nations...the return to virtue and Christian values of the citizens of the United States and the World.

Scripture Meditations..."And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him." Luke 17:4

Bibliophilia...Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease by Caldwell B. Esselstyn, in this world of self-inflicted, food-born illnesses I need constant reminders why my choice to follow the Word of Wisdom in its entirety is the best choice. I suppose I became interested in Essy, as he is called by his family, when I saw a video of his wife's cooking class. She is wonderful. His research is very convincing...Re-read A Montessori Mother by Fisher and The Child in the Family by Montessori. I can't say enough about the gentleness of the Montessori Method and wish I had been better at following all the fine points.

Sound of Music...still just playing hymns but loving it...had a nightmare of me playing before an audience!!!

Movement...walking and stretching...T Tapp irritated my hip and sent me to bed for a couple days, so I'm giving it up for awhile.

Deliciousness...home-made fat-free chipotle baba hummus over roasted vegetables, miso soup with tons of veggies, gazpacho smoothies, banana blueberry swirl ice kream...I can't say enough about eating plant perfect. It's not yucky or boring in any way.

My Style...favorite outfit this week denim A-line, black cotton fair isle, pink T, black tights and mary janes...I really enjoyed wearing my blue and pink aloha dress with berkie sandals last week in Phoenix. I can hardly wait for my new silhouette rimless glasses; I'm pretty tired of my tortoise shell ones after nearly 4 years.

The Garden Gate...transplanted some miniature tomato and pepper starts into a window box. I started them in anticipation of my window farm that was supposed to get here in March. Anyway, the window box looks very cute. Also started another window box of toy choi, red stem spinach, and baby romaine. Suspended a piece of garnet 'yam' over a jar of water for sweet potato starts. Got all my open-pollinated heirloom tomato, herbs, flowers, jicama, bell pepper, hot pepper, and eggplant seeds, potting soil, hydroton, and plastic cups for my Conference weekend planting project. From April to June, my front room gets sort of cluttery with all the baby veggies in cups, but it makes me happy.

Thimble News...making this cute Oliver+S outfit for an unsuspecting granddaughter. The top is a stripped print; the multicolored pastel stripes look like rickrack. The skirt is a solid blue picked from one stripe.

The Herbalist...After the dentist told me I needed another root canal last summer, I remembered a Dr. Christopher lecture about white oak bark and wondered if it would help my bad tooth. I began using DC tooth powder and the pain, hot/cold sensitivity, and swelling quickly disappeared. The next time I went to the dentist, they couldn't find the problem on the x-ray. Also, I had a couple places with swollen and receding gums; this has cleared up as well. At first the stuff was strange, but I quickly got used to it. The tooth powder doesn't stain my teeth at all, possibly because  I stirred 1 t. cinnamon into the jar to disguise the taste; cinnamon is used in India to whiten teeth. Initially, I found it left herb particles between my teeth, so I learned to rinse better after brushing. This is likely another reason for my good results. Finally, the hygienist finds nothing to do in my mouth anymore nor does the dentist. I'll likely stay out of the dentist office and keep him out of my pocketbook. Then I can send myself on a great vacation instead of paying for his. B12 is making a huge difference as are the several DC combinations I use. I got a shipment from Mountain Rose, which was wonderful. However, I am looking forward to the day, when I grow and prepare all my own formulas.

Living Fearlessly and Well...I need to remember Grandma's advice to let the comments and opinions of rude or brutally 'honest' people roll off my back like water on a duck's back in a rainstorm. I need to remember what it feels like, when someone thinks they have to use their 'honesty' to let you know how something really is. I am not convinced that tact is dishonest or rudeness is honest. A brutally honest opinion is not necessarily the truth; it is simply an opinion presented in an unkind way. It doesn't need to be accepted or acted upon, when it rolls off the back. "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent," Eleanor Roosevelt. If a conversation begins to veer into gossip or unkindness of any type, I'll find an excuse to excuse myself from now on.
