Paradigm Shift

“The list of health problems I think it would very hard to live with is SO much longer than the list of foods I previously thought I couldn’t live without,” Merrill Alley.

freedom and joy

Mosiah 5

Because they no longer desired to do wrong, the people know that King Benjamin’s words were true  Mosiah 5:2–5. If we “had no more disposition to do evil” there would be peace on earth. The people who heard King Benjamin speak and experienced this mighty change were not converted that day. They were already believers. Even those who know and love Jesus, still need to experience a change of heart to no more do evil. Afterwards, the challenge is to maintain this change. We live among others who possibly don't share our beliefs, who might hurt our feelings, and who engage in improper activities. We live in a world filled with sinful choices. We can overcome these challenges if we strive to keep the words of King Benjamin in our minds and the Holy Ghost in our hearts. We can refuse to become offended and resolve to keep the commandments. We can repent, when we mess up.

When we allow Christ to change our hearts and strive to keep His commandments, we become the children of Christ Mosiah 5:2, 5–7. When we are thus born again in spirit, we take upon ourselves the name of Christ Mosiah 5:8–11. To help us keep Christ’s name written in our hearts, we should serve His children each day Mosiah 5:11–15. Additionally, we should do things to remind ourselves of this commitment such as daily prayer and scripture study, attending church meetings, and weekly partaking of the sacrament.

“Our willingness to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ affirms our commitment to do all that we can to be counted among those whom he will choose to stand at his right hand and be called by his name at the last day,” ( Dallin H. Oaks Ensign, May 1985, 83).

The blessings of freedom and eternal inheritance from living worthily of Jesus name are available to everyone. Obedience to Jesus commandments brings freedom on earth and joy throughout eternity. “In obedience there is joy and peace unspotted, unalloyed; and as God has designed our happiness, … He never has—He never will institute an ordinance or give a commandment to His people that is not calculated in its nature to promote that happiness,” Joseph Smith.
