o remember, remember

“Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it.” George Santayanna

Nephi taught us to “liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning,” 1 Nephi 19:23. This means to place ourselves in the scriptural events and circumstances then think how it might apply and relate in our lives today."And now, verily I say unto you, and what I say unto one I say unto all..." Doctrine and Covenants 61:36 "O remember, remember, my sons, the words which king Benjamin spake unto his people; yea, remember that there is no other way nor means whereby man can be saved, only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who shall come; yea, remember that he cometh to redeem the world." Helaman 5:9

In addition to learning from the experiences of scriptural characters, we can learn about like from elders. "When you are willing to listen and learn, some of life’s most meaningful teachings come from those who have gone before you. They have walked where you are walking and have experienced many of the things you are experiencing. If you listen and respond to their counsel, they can help guide you toward choices that will be for your benefit and blessing and steer you away from decisions that can destroy you...Learning the lessons of the past allows you to walk boldly in the light without running the risk of stumbling in the darkness." M. Russell Ballard, April 2009
