Along the way, scribes, pharisees, sadducees, and rabbis attained positions of pride, power, and 'exalted wisdom.' Jesus preached against this idea of putting these hypocrites above the other citizens and sometimes even God. They got so caught up in the letter of the law that the lost the purpose for the law, to create a better man.

To liken this to myself, I see the need to live by the law. However, the law should affect the heart as well as outward actions. If I serve others with a sweet countenance but inside sneer or jeer, I am no better than those self-aggrandized men Jesus condemned. Dare to do right. This brings to mind a Primary song. "Dare to be true. You have a work that no other can do. Do it so bravely, so kindly, so well; angels will hasten the story to tell."
