the glory of Ginger or the glory of God

Acts 8:4–40

The people of Samaria believed Philip’s Good News of Jesus and were baptized. But to receive the Holy Ghost, the ordinance was performed by Peter and John, who held the proper priesthood authority.

Strangely, a Samarian named Simon performed acts of sorcery, causing the people to think he was God. When the Apostles performed similar miracles, they were careful to make it know that the miracles occurred because of the power of the Son, Jesus Christ. This difference is significant, because it is similar to circumstances today. Many who do great things do so to glorify themselves, while servants of Christ serve for the glory of God. When attempting to discern the correct path, it is helpful to remember this difference in those who wish to influence us.

When Simon saw the Apostles bestowing the gift of the Holy Ghost, he desired priesthood power and offered to pay for it. Peter let Simon know it wasn't for sale but given freely to all who qualify to receive it.  Peter indicated that Simon must repent, give up sin, and leave bitterness behind.

“This greatest of all powers, the priesthood power, is not accessed the way power is used in the world. It cannot be bought or sold. … Worldly power often is employed ruthlessly. However, priesthood power is invoked only through those principles of righteousness by which the priesthood is governed” (James E. Faust, Ensign, May 1997, 43).

Philip met the Ethiopian eunuch on his journey to Gaza. Because Philip followed the Spirit, he was able to teach the gospel with the Holy Ghost, converting the Ethiopian eunuch. Following the Spirit at anytime can bring great blessings of peace, comfort, safety, direction, miracle, and opportunities to share the gospel.

Because the Ethiopian was willing to condescend and be taught by Philip, he demonstrate humility. In turn, his humility helped him understand and accept the word of God. He was then baptized.

Applying this to my life, I wonder if I, in my greatness and glory, sufficiently humble myself to accept the teachings of the gospel from God's appointed servants? Do I serve others for the glory of Ginger or the glory of God?

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
