Mary and Resurrected Christ by Simon Dewey |
Since today is Independence Day in the United States, I'd like to share some wonderful news that brings true independence, the Good News that Jesus lives today.
“Many years ago … a writer for a newspaper was asked an important question, ‘What would be the most important news the world could receive? [The writer] thought and thought about the question, he talked to many people, and read all he could in an effort to find an answer for himself. And finally, he printed his answer, ‘To know that Jesus Christ lives today would be the most important news the world could receive. In fact, if He lives today, then we too will live eternally as He said’” (James M. Paramore, Ensign, Nov. 1990, 64).
When Mary, Mary Magdalene, and Joanna arrived at the tomb of Jesus, they instead found 2 angels. The angel told them to fear not and reminded them that Jesus foretold of His resurrection on the third day. Resurrection overcomes temporal death, when "the spirit and the body shall be reunited again in its perfect form; both limb and joint shall be restored to its proper frame.." Alma 11:42–45 Because of Jesus overcame temporal death and was resurrected, all will all be resurrected and given immortal bodies.
The truthfulness of the beautiful event has brought me much hope in my life. Especially after the death of loved ones, the Resurrection takes on pointed meaning. I will see my little girl again. I will see my other dear departed friends and family again. Death is not the end of a well-lived life (or for that matter a poorly-lived life.) The spirit is eternal.
The women with great joy went to look for the apostles and disciples. They wanted everyone to know the Good News. This may well be the first instance of missionary work after the earthly mission of Jesus Christ. Do I do likewise? Do I joyfully share the Good News of Jesus' gifts of Atonement and Resurrection?
Mary and the other women were the first to see the resurrected Jesus. He showed himself to several others, because He wanted earthly witnesses of this great event. "This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established." 2 Corinthians 13:1
I love the following children's song. The melody is sweet but the lyrics are my simple testimony.
Did Jesus Really Live Again?
by Sherri Stevens
Did Jesus really live again?
Yes when the third day came.
He wakened and he left the tomb.
He called Mary's name.
Yes when the third day came.
He wakened and he left the tomb.
He called Mary's name.
Did Jesus come to those he loved?
Yes people touched his feet.
And of the fish and honeycomb
He did truly eat.
And there were nail prints in his hands
And a spear wound in his side.
Did Jesus really live again after he had died?
Oh yes, and so shall I!
Oh yes, and so shall I!

Reading the scriptures and keeping this journal are my delight. I do not keep an online journal to preach to anyone but myself. I like this format, because I can add pictures and correct my writing easier. If you enjoy reading it, I am happy. If you feel offended, please, realize it is not my intention to offend but to teach myself. No negative comments will not be published.
