Paradigm Shift

“The list of health problems I think it would very hard to live with is SO much longer than the list of foods I previously thought I couldn’t live without,” Merrill Alley.

Forget-Me-Not #1

I too have a tender connection with this tiny beautiful flower that mirrors the color of my dear Katie's eyes. The year before she left us, our family traveled quite a bit. Everywhere we went, we saw this little flower. At first I pointed it out. Later, every time Katie saw it, she said, 'Mommy, forget-me-not.' Since that time, I've always wondered if she somehow knew what was coming.

"There is a German legend that just as God had finished naming all the plants, one was left unnamed. A tiny voice spoke out, 'Forget me not, O Lord!' And God replied that this would be its name."

"I (Elder Ucktdorf) would like to use this little flower as a metaphor. The five petals of the little forget-me-not flower prompt me to consider five things we would be wise never to forget." I want to focus on one of these five ideas at a time over the next several days.

Be patient with yourself. This was great advice to me. God knows I am not perfect and the people I think are perfect are not. "God wants to help us to eventually turn all of our weaknesses into strengths, but He knows that this is a long-term goal. He wants us to become perfect, and if we stay on the path of discipleship, one day we will. It’s OK that you’re not quite there yet. Keep working on it, but stop punishing yourself." I should be compassionate and patient my weaknesses and those of others. God notices small success, and they are not small to Him.

"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them." Ether 12:27
"Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect." 3 Nephi 12:48
