life of obedience
2 Nephi 33. In this final chapter of Nephi’s ministry, we read his testimony that his words are revelation from Jesus Christ and are “of great worth” 2 Nephi 33:3–5. We know that the words of Nephi are true, because they teach us to do good 2 Nephi 33:10; Moroni 7:13–17.)
Because Nephi was a prophet of God, we will meet him “face to face” at the judgment bar (2 Nephi 33:11. He prophecies and teachings will “condemn [us] at the last day” if we reject or disobey them 2 Nephi 33:14.These ideas give me hope. Even though he lived more than 2000 years ago, Nephi has done a lot of good in my life. Choosing to be stalwart and follow the commandments of God, he has shown me how to stand in the face of opposition. Of course nobody tried to take my life in the literal sense Nephi experienced. Nonetheless, there are many today that mock what I stand for and lie to get gain. They would think nothing of destroying me and people like me to get gain and power.
Nephi's life was an example of obedience. When he said, “For thus hath the Lord commanded me, and I must obey,” it was a sealing to his example (2 Nephi 33:15). Because of Nephi’s example, I have learned to trust in the Lord and to be more obedient to His Will and Word.
I am grateful that Nephi obeyed the command to write about the gospel of Christ. Gaining a hope, faith, and finally a belief in Jesus, we take the first step. Striving to live the commandments and repenting when we don't, we take the second step. Baptism by immersion by one who holds priesthood authority, is so important that the only perfect person to walk upon this earth obeyed this commandment to show us by example the importance of this step. Receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, we allow the Atonement and grace of God to work in our lives. Additionally, we choose to let the Holy Ghost guide us through personal inspiration. Finally, as we accept trials and endure them gracefully and faithfully to the end, we learn the character of God and stand as a witness of Jesus Christ.
