Praying for Tyson who is a carbon copy of his daddy. Praying that he can learn what true manhood means by emulating the character of the Savior: spiritual, courageous, patient, gentle, long-suffering, content, humble, giving, calm, optimistic, forgiving, non-judgmental, service oriented, truthful, able to endure without murmuring, etc. If more little boys were taught the truth about manhood, perhaps we would see less anger, less war, and less hurting of the innocent.
Meditations on Jesus' Word..."Behold, ye have called me your king; and if I, whom ye call your king, do labor to serve you, then ought not ye to labor to serve one another?" Mosiah 2:18 Serving with the youth is a fantastic experience.
Bibliophilia...Sent
Paddle-to-the-Sea by Holling C. Holling to Tyson. I so miss homeschooling. Sending books to the grands, I get a tiny bit of that old favorite activity and relive a bit of those memories. Not reading much with our new responsibilities. However, I spoke last week on the role of the Renaissance and Reformation in the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. So I reread some of The Story of Liberty by Charles Coffin. Because I didn't learn world history in school, this book helped me understand God's hand in the history of mankind. It's a good Christian word view of that time period in history even if the author has a weird way with tenses.
Cucina Fresca...changed up our oatmeal recipe to reduce the calories by removing almond milk with great success. Now that I've gained my weight back, I'm watching that I don't go back up the scale. Also, nuts are another allergen for me. I used to think eating just a bit was ok, but it's not.
1 c. gluten-free rolled oats
2 c. water
1 mashed banana
1 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. cardamom
1/2 t. orange peel
1/2 t. vanilla
1 diced apple
Boil oats in water. Add spices and mashed banana. When it is to the desired consistency, stir in apples and serve sprinkled with more cinnamon. I prefer low-heated whole grain oats but have as yet to find a supply of gluten-free organic oat groats. This is good with low-heated, organic, short-grained, brown rice.
Hablo Espaniol...Had a good conversation with the owner of a new Mexican restaurant here. He taught me a new word, rebola, which means mixed up. Later when I began a conversation with his wife, she said de nada, didididididididi...My eyes got big and I said. Lo siento, no entiendo. She laughed and said, you have a good night.
Garden Gate...sweet hubby bought me forget-me-nots to plant around our little cottage.
Pen and Brush...It's a myth that average youngsters or the youngster at heart cannot learn to draw. It's a skill just like reading, writing, arithmetic, laying an instrument, or riding a bike. The more you practice the better you get if you have the right instruction. Certainly, a few will be talented, but that doesn't mean everyone can't gain some competence and enjoyment from the skill.
