There is a reason for every word included in scripture. Because most of us don't know the Bible as well as the people of Jesus' time, we don't understand many plain and simple references. To us they are mysteries until we learn what they mean. Verses 12-17 tells us that Jesus came and dwelt at Capernaum, which was a dangerous land, even the land of the shadow of death. Why? Whenever invaders from Eastern lands attacked Israel, this was the first place they battled. Of course, this means they were in high anticipation and more fierce than they perhaps were with subsequent areas. Additionally, the landscape was of black basalt, making the land itself dark. Isaiah spoke of this. Matthew simply shows Jesus fulfilled this prophesy, when he brought the light, hope, and inner peace of the gospel to this place. Similarly, as the gospel spread, others felt this light, hope, and inner peace. "Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined." Isaiah 9:1-2

If the Savior were to call you today, would you be just as willing to leave your nets and follow Him?” I am confident that many would. But for some, it may not be such an easy decision…Nets come in many sizes and shapes. The nets that Peter, Andrew, James, and John left were tangible objects—tools that helped them earn a living. We sometimes think of these four men as modest fishermen who did not sacrifice much when they left their nets to follow the Savior. To the contrary…Peter, Andrew, James, and John were partners in a prosperous business…Nets are generally defined as devices for capturing something. In a more narrow but more important sense, we might define a net as anything that entices or prevents us from following the call of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. Nets in this context can be our work, our hobbies, our pleasures, and, above all else, our temptations and sins. In short, a net can be anything that pulls us away from our relationship with our Heavenly Father or from His restored Church.
Si el Salvador se llame a usted hoy, ¿estaría tan dispuesto a dejar las redes y seguirlo?" estoy seguro de que muchos. Pero para algunos, puede que no sea una decisión fácil…Redes vienen en muchas formas y tamaños. En resumen, una red puede ser cualquier cosa que nos eleva de nuestra relación con nuestro Padre celestial y de su iglesia restaurada.
Let me give you a modern example. A computer can be a useful and indispensable tool. But if we allow it to devour our time with vain, unproductive, and sometimes destructive pursuits, it becomes an entangling net.
Permítanme darles un ejemplo moderno. Un ordenador puede ser una herramienta útil e indispensable. Pero si permitimos que se devoren a nuestro tiempo con vano, improductivos, y a veces destructiva, que se convierte en una red de enredo.
Many of us enjoy watching athletic contests, but if we can recite the statistics of our favorite players and at the same time forget birthdays or anniversaries, neglect our families, or ignore the opportunity to render acts of Christ-like service, then athletics may also be an entangling net.

Since the days of Adam, mankind has, by the sweat of his brow, earned his daily bread. But when our work consumes us to the point where the spiritual dimensions of life are neglected, work can also be an entangling net…It is impossible to list the many nets that can ensnare us and keep us from following the Savior. But if we are sincere in our desire to follow Him, we must straightway leave the world’s entangling nets and follow Him…I do not suggest that the road will be easy. But I will give you my witness that those who, in faith, leave their nets and follow the Savior will experience happiness beyond their ability to comprehend…We have nets that must be tended and nets that must be mended. Desde los días de Adán, la humanidad tiene, por el sudor de su frente, se ha ganado el pan de cada día. After they left their nets, they joined Jesus in his ministry. As the followed Jesus, the watched Him heal many of physical and mental illness and pain. Shortly, Jesus fame and following grew.
