" For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace," Isaiah 9:6.
"And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots," Isaiah 11:1
Every time I read Isaiah, I want to break out in song. For many years, I performed in Handel's Messiah at Christmas time, and many other years I listed to live or recorded performances. I feel so much joy in the scriptures and in Jesus.
I'm a bit humbug anymore with commercialism and gluttony and Santa and all that come with cultural celebrations during the Christmas season. I've quit putting up a tree. I say my trees are in the backyard--four citrus trees loaded with colorful fruit is more beautiful than a dying or fake pine. The only decorating I do is putting out a nativities. Jesus is the reason for this joyful season. I'll celebrate His birth and life.
